5 things to keep in mind when booking a florist

1. Have a color palette in mind

  • Choose 1-3 main colors with 1-2 accent colors

  • Have swatches and or photos with colors you like

  • Understand not all colors are found in flowers at all times of the year

2. Think about the style of flowers

  • Think through what style of flowers you are drawn to is it minimal, or abundant? - Would you like a tight and more formal appearance or more loose and organic? - Do you prefer it to be heavy on the greens?

  • For a bridal bouquet think bout how big you would like the bouquet? And how you want the  ribbon tied around?

3. Know your numbers if you’d like to get a bid

Here are some things to think through. There is no need to do all of these options.

  • Bridal Bouquet

  • The day of your event you will probably want one

  • Do you need one for a photoshoot on another day?

  • Will you throw your bouquet? Do you want a separate one to throw?

  • Boutonnières

  • Maybe 1 for the groom

  • Who else would you like one for? Fathers, grandfathers, groomsmen etc - Corsages

  • Would you like any corsages? Sometimes mothers or grandmothers get one - Would you like them to be pin on, held on with a magnet, or on the wrist - Bridesmaids and Flower girls

  • Do you want bouquets, head crowns, or hair combs with flowers

  • Cake Flowers

  • Do you want flowers on your cake? Would you like the florist or the cake person to put  them on? Either way, you’ll need to coordinate between them about when the flowers and  cake are arriving and who will put them on.

  • Flowers for tables

  • Which tables will get flowers: food serving tables, tables for guests, gift tables. How many  of each?

  • Other arrangements to think about

  • Flowers on the arch, the aisle way, garlands, or installation piece etc

4. Provide schedule for your Florist

  • What time will you need the flowers by?

  • Are the event and ceremony happening in the same place?

  • What time can the florist start to set up in the venue space?

5. Choose a florist you can trust

  • Budget: Do you best to know within a range, what your budget is.

  • Prioritize: Know what about your flowers is the most important to you. Is it the bouquet? Is a  certain type of flower? Is it a very specific color? Is it your budget? Is it an installation piece? - Be Flexible: Once you know what is most important to you, let the rest be flexible and the  florist will do their best to accomplish all that you want.
